FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Come join us, whether to play, or just to enjoy the music.
EVERY Tuesday, 7:30pm - 10:00pm (or later).
• A different location each month (See schedule below). Based in the NY Capital region.
Open to acoustic musicians (any age, any ability)
For "traditional" instruments (such as: fiddle, guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo, flute, pennywhistle, bodhran, hand drums and/or light percussion instruments, upright bass, etc.)
We play Traditional Celtic, French-Canadian, Old-Time American and international fiddle tunes (jigs, reels, marches, waltzes) that are often used in contra dances.
This is a "Round Robin" jam -- we go around the circle and each person takes a turn selecting tunes to play and the playing speed of those tunes (no pressure, you can pass on your turn, if you choose). Group size variest (expect 8-25 musicians).
Beginners/Pros welcome! Books and sheet music are allowed. Bring a tune to share; we love to learn something new!
This is a mixed ability group. Tune tempos depend on the ability of players present each week, and the speed each person selects for their pick. Ask us, and we'll play a tune slower, or faster, if you wish. Regional and stylistic tune variations abound, so one tune can have many different ways to be played -- we learn from each other. This is a great place to learn to play with other musicians and to increase your repertoire. If you've never played this style of music, you are more than welcome to sit in and listen/learn.
